2017 waec gce physics practical runz solution

Q1ix)

the two precautions are: 1avoid parallax error in reading clock/weight balance. 2 I ensue repeated readings are taken to avoid random error. 3 I avoid draught or wind when performing the experiment.

 Q1bi)

the forces are weight, upthrust and viscous force / drag or liquid friction.

 Q1bii)

 the amplitude of oscillation of the loaded test tube decreases with time because of the viscous drag(force) which opposes the motion.

(1bi)
(i) weight
(ii) upthrust
(iii) viscous force/drag or liquid friction

Question 2
b(ii)  given : f = 10cm
                     u = 20cm
                     v = ?
        Using:
        1/f  =  1/u  +  1/v
        1/10  =  1/20  +  1/v
        Multiplying through with 20v, we have:
        2v = v + 20
        2v – v = 20
        v = 20cm
        Magnification, m = v/u
                                  m = 20/20
                                  m = 1

Question 3
(i)  Temperature increases the rate of vibration of the
      of the molecules of the conductor and consequently a displacement in their mean position causing expansion. When this happens, the length of of the conductor tends to increase. Since the resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to its length, resistance increases.

(ii)  Given: Power, P = 1000W
                   Voltage, V = 200V
                   Resistance, R = ?
       Using:
                   P = V²/R
                   R = V²/P
                   R = 200²/1000
                   R = 40000/1000

                   R = 40 ohms
